“Stichting Natuurkunst Drenthe” (Foundation of Nature Art Drenthe) organises the seventh edition of Art and Nature trails in the woods of Sleenerzand – Schoonoord in Drenthe.
Previous editions: 2005 – The Legend, 2006 – Waters Grown Still, 2007 – Green Revolution, 2008 – Artful Archaeology, 2009 – Survival, 2011 – BorderLand.
Extraterrestrial – theme of edition 2012
Artists let themselves be inspired by the theme of ExtraTerrestrial in the widest sense of the word.
The theme is based on the Lofar – antenna system sited in Drenthe. This system of thousands of antennas is scanning the sky searching for new cosmic developments. It registers millions of celestial bodies in the universe and defines the place of the earth in this complexity.
The challenge for the artist is to translate this specific idea into a three-dimensional engineering or structure or interference in the scenery.
It is required that the spatial compositions and structures can stand the local conditions ( public wood, influences of nature ) for at least seven months. These projects are based on the use of natural materials and/or an obvious connection between nature and art.
Location
The location for the works of art is the wood and the heaths nearby the village of Schoonoord.
A new trail ( footway ) will be plotted of about 3 kilometres in length.

Entries
Artists can apply by means of a concrete proposal and the artistic documentation going with it.
The documentation can only be sent in digitally in Pdf-size.
Deadline date is 31st January 2012.
The proposal must consist of the following items:
Project proposal – description
Project proposal – sketches
CV ( Curriculum Vitae ) of the artist
Documentation previous work of the artist
Survey materials
Survey of cost of materials
The proposal can only be submitted digitally in Pdf-size. 12 A4 pages at the most. In Dutch or English. If the entry does not meet the above requirements participation is not possible.

Artists € 1250,00 ( including all expenses )
Complete board and lodging
Accommodation in comfortable site caravans ( 2 bedrooms, shower, etc. ) on Recreation Centre
‘t Kuierpadtien Wezeperbrug on the basis of 2 artists per caravan.www.kuierpad.nl.
Lunch and dinner will be provided for by the organisation. Breakfast: personal arrangement.
Materials
Natural materials from the national forest: trees, trunks, branches, erratic boulders. Next to these other materials can be applied. For extra materials, in consultation, a limited budget is available. ( should be part of the proposal )
Refunding of travelling expenses ( to a maximum of € 500,00 )
On the basis of public transport or mileage allowance as is customary in the Netherlands.
We only refund your way here and homeward journey.
Assistance
Employees of “Staatsbosbeheer” www.staatsbosbeheer.nl are willing to give limited assistance, e.g. if
the help of machinery is required. The team of co-operators from Schoonoord is essential to project realisation. Possibly in addition some volunteers are available.
However, the artist him/herself is responsible for the realisation of the work of art within the working-period of two weeks.
Selection
In February 2012 an expert jury will make a selection of the proposals sent in. ( with previous editions over 150 entries per edition ). They will make a definite choice of ten artists who will be invited to realise the work of art.
